Germany defeated Ukraine in comprehensive fashion on Sunday night in Lille, but credit must be given to goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov for helping his side stay in the game until Bastian Schweinsteiger removed all doubt in stoppage time.
Prior to the game, Manuel Neuer had been billed as one to watch, but in truth it was his opposite number who impressed for the Eastern Europeans, although admittedly he had many more opportunities to do so.
Making point blank saves from the likes of Sami Khedira, Mario Gotze and Mesut Ozil meant that a late Ukraine equaliser was still possible, but a last minute German counter proved too much for Ukraine's fatigued defence and Pyatov could do nothing to stop Schweinsteiger's clinical finish.
Goalkeeper and Defence
Andriy Pyatov - 7
The Shakhtar Donetsk keeper was blameless for Shkodran Mustafi's header and could equally do nothing about Schweinsteiger's half-volley, but otherwise made six good saves.
He was by far the standout Ukraine player.
Artem Fedetskiy - 6
His tenacity led to a great chance for Konoplyanka early on and was involved in an exciting match-up with Julian Draxler.
Ultimately, he fared well and even managed to sneak into promising attacking positions down the right flank on occasion.
Yevhen Khacheridi - 6
Forced a good save from Neuer in the first half from a header from a corner, and adeptly shackled the diminutive Mario Gotze.
Tired in the second half, and at times allowed too much room between him and his teammates to allow German attackers in.
Yaroslav Rakitskiy - 6
Was caught out of position at times and appeared slow to react to German through balls. Could have done more to recover for Schweinsteiger's late goal.
Vyacheslav Shevchuk - 6.5
The ageing full-back coped well with Thomas Muller on the left flank, and indeed the Bayern Munich forward was restrained with relative ease.
Midfield and Attack
Serhiy Sydorchuk - 5
Afforded Toni Kroos too much respect in the middle of the park, and was unable to challenge Mustafi for the opening goal.
His defensive contribution was lacking, though there was one bright moment when he nutmegged Draxler to create space for a cross on the right wing.
Taras Stepanenko - 5.5
Couldn't cope with Germany's midfield and didn't put enough pressure on Sami Khedira.
Andriy Yarmolenko - 6.5
One of the stronger Ukraine performers, all that was positive about their attacking display stemmed from him.
Provided an excellent ball for Konoplyanka in the first half, and looked dangerous throughout, but didn't have enough opportunities to exert himself.
Viktor Kovalenko - 5.5
A very tough match for the 20-year-old in only his third international appearance.
He looked out of his depth against a much superior German midfield, and was exhausted by the time he was substituted in the 74th minute.
Didn't see enough of the ball to pose any notable threat.
Yevhen Konoplyanka - 6.5
Really should have equalised in the first half but mishit the ball before Jerome Boateng spectacularly cleared.
Had a great effort saved by Neuer in the fourth minute, and indeed posed a threat from the left wing throughout.
However, that golden miss will define his game.
Roman Zozulya - 5
Faded in and out of the match, and could carve no real chances for himself due to being regularly isolated.
When balls entered the box he was either nowhere near them or couldn't beat Mustafi or Boateng.
Looked overworked which is not surprising given he is currently serving a six-month domestic football ban.
Substitutes
Evgen Seleznyov - 6
Was unable to do much better than Zozulya but worked hard up front.
Oleksandr Zinchenko - 6
Barely had any time to make any discernible impact and couldn't influence the midfield which was controlled by Kroos and Khedira.
