With a classic A track bias assisting horses away from the rails on Saturday, the regulation black book formulae don't really apply to the Sha Tin results.

Racing wide was no disadvantage and horse players should be less impressed by those caught off the track and be more forgiving of those against the inside which appeared to have underperformed.

Two races which looked pointers to future winners were the Class Four won by debutant Silly Buddies and the Panasonic Cup.

In the latter, most eyes were on Flagship Shine circling the field under top weight to win a race tagged as Class One for prizemoney reasons but which was actually a Class Two in structure.

Even with the bias in his favour, it was a nice performance on par with his best and that makes him one of the top four-year-olds.

But the unplaced leader, Wah May Star is also worth a second look.

Having his first run in two months and his first since joining Tony Cruz, Wah May Star's trial prior hinted that he would gain from the race.

On Saturday, he went forward, found the rails and took them along at a very solid tempo before giving a decent kick until he was caught just inside the 200m.

Wah May Star has already been to a 98 rating but he has fallen to 88 now, which gives Cruz - a dab hand at improving transfer horses - some room with which to work.

Behind impressive debutant Silly Buddies, Caspar Fownes-trained Robust Momentum was a significant improver on his first two runs when he showed nothing.

Again steadied to the rear, Robust Momentum this time had something to offer when Vincent Ho Chak-yiu called on him and sustained a good finish right to the line, finishing less than four lengths away.

It was a much better performance and he shapes like he will appreciate a little further than 1,200m.

In the last, Flying Ibis turned around two poor runs since the break with eighth behind Ho In One, racing up the inside section in the straight.

For that, he dropped two points in the ratings, taking him back to Class Four next time where he should prove competitive.
