Roger Federer’s almost-billionaire status

At 42, the Swiss maestro’s net worth has continued to grow in retirement and he is now close to reaching billionaire status, with an estimated fortune of US$95.1 million, per Forbes.

According to the publication, Federer made US$130 million in prize money over his career, with most his net worth coming from appearances and endorsements. Federer’s endorsement portfolio includes the likes of Rolex, Lindt, Wilson and On.

His philanthropic efforts have seen his namesake foundation raise more than US$50 million and educate 1.5 million children in Africa to date.

His fashion endorsement – and collections – for Uniqlo

According to Forbes, Federer’s current biggest deal is with the Japanese apparel brand Uniqlo. In 2018, he signed a 10-year, US$300 million deal with the brand – with the collaboration continuing since his retirement.Per The New York Times, in August 2023, Federer introduced his first fashion collection that he designed with Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson. Going beyond the tennis star’s previous merch of hats and T-shirts with his RF logo, the collection included fleece zip-up jackets and nylon joggers.

Enjoying life off the court, from family to philanthropy

For a quarter of a century, Federer’s life was all about training and winning. After stepping away from his lifelong career, the tennis champ initially said he didn’t know how he would take it. In an interview with The New York Times, Federer added that he ended his career in the most perfect way at the Laver Cup: “I was surrounded by my biggest rivals, and my family was there and my friends.”

With no hectic training and travel schedule, Federer has had more time for the ordinary things in life. A year into his retirement, he told The Wall Street Journal that he was doing more dad duties, like driving his four children to school.

Fans have also seen a more laid-back side to the tennis star. In July last year, he got on stage at a Coldplay concert in Zurich and played the shaker.

Federer also told The New York Times that he was travelling more with his family, taking his children on a trip for his foundation to the Southern African country of Lesotho, and travelling with his parents on the Orient Express. He also attended the Met Gala, earning kudos for his style choices.

The tennis star also made a splash when he attended the 2023 Rugby World Cup final in France, wearing a Springboks rugby shirt and scarf. South Africa faced off against New Zealand and, considering that Federer’s mum Lynette is South African, the tennis legend took her to the game along with his wife and children. Federer proceeded to go viral for meeting the Springboks after they won the game.

His upcoming Amazon Prime documentary

According to Variety, Amazon Prime Video will produce a feature-length documentary detailing the last 12 days of Federer’s career. The docu will also feature some of the tennis champ’s main professional rivals including Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. It will be directed by Asif Kapadia, who won an Oscar for the Amy Winehouse documentary, Amy.

Federer said that he allowed the footage to be shot as it was “originally a home video never intended for public viewing”, per Yahoo! News Singapore. However, as the film turned out to contain some powerful moments, with the tennis star appearing at his most candid, Federer agreed for it to be shared with the wider world.
