She wore a white faux fur coat and a sparkling Michael Kors Collection dress for the party, and looked the spitting image of her rebellious granny. Reports suggest that the outfit was no coincidence since it clearly paid homage to Princess Margaret’s iconic 1951 ensemble when she too donned a white beaded gown and white fur stole for an event in Leicester Square. So, who is she and, with such glamorous DNA, is she set to become London’s next “It” girl as we watched Margaret so famously become on Netflix’s The Crown?

Royal roots

Lady Margarita is the daughter of the Earl of Snowdon and his ex-wife Serena Armstrong-Jones, making Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones her paternal grandparents. Her great aunt is the late Queen Elizabeth, while Prince William and Prince Harry are related to her as cousins.

The 20-year-old has one older brother, Charles Armstrong-Jones, who’s 23. Although she’s got close links to the royal family, Margarita is unlikely to have to think about ruling a nation since she sits down the list at 26th in the line of succession to the throne, according to People.

She’s very private

Not all royals love the spotlight, it seems.

You’d be forgiven if this is the first time you’ve come across Lady Margarita considering she’s rarely in the media or seen at public events. According to The List, that’s no accident, with her parents purposely raising her and her brother away from the limelight. She does, however, attend big royal gatherings like the queen’s recent funeral as well as her family members’ weddings and jubilees.

Her Instagram account is private, indicating she probably intends to keep her life away from the public eye.

She was a royal bridesmaid

Back in 2011, when Margarita was just eight years old, she attended Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding as an adorable bridesmaid. She was one of several lucky children to attend the lavish affair along with a young Lady Louise Windsor, Eliza Lopes and Grace van Cutsem.

As a teen, she nabbed an invite to cousin Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018, and then was at another nuptials a few months later for Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s union, per Hello!.

She runs a jewellery brand

Much like her father who founded his own company making bespoke furniture (under the professional name David Linley), Margarita is blessed with the creative gene and likes to get crafty too. As hinted at in her Instagram bio, she is the brains behind her own handmade jewellery line, Matita.

On the page, Armstrong-Jones shares photos of her creations which include moonstone bezel and labradorite silver rings, hand-strung tourmaline and rose quartz necklaces and emerald green beaded hoop earrings.

She’s a photographer

Another takeaway from her Instagram bio is her apparent passion for photography.

Margarita has a dedicated page to showcase her snapshots that seem to combine film photography and black and white images.

She’s currently a student

Now 20, Margarita is well into her university life. While Lady Louise Windsor reportedly attends St Andrews – where William and Kate met – Margarita is busy finishing her studies at Oxford Brookes and is set to graduate next year, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Royal engagement! Meet Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg, set to wed in 2023

Back in 2011, Margarita dabbled in the fashion world by modelling for Kids Company and also went to the Dior Cruise show in 2016 at Blenheim Palace, according to Hello!.

How close is she to the royals?

Based on her inclusion in the royals family’s most exclusive events, it seems Margarita is well embedded. She was however, born in May 2002, three months after her grandmother Princess Margaret died, so was never able to meet her.

She was pictured on numerous occasions with the queen, and according to Hello!, she would usually attend the royal Christmas lunch every year too.

Although most British royals aren’t allowed to use Instagram, Margarita is an exception and she’s followed by distant relative Lady Amelia Windsor and French “It” girl and Jean Arnault’s girlfriend, Zita D’Hauteville. Jean is the son of billionaire LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault.
