Nesta: "Real Madrid didn't treat Ancelotti right"
In an interview with Yahoo Deportes, current Miami FC boss Alessandro Nesta slammed the way in which Real Madrid handled Carlo Ancelotti's departure from the Bernabéu hotseat: "Real Madrid didn't treat him right. In my view, after having delivered the club's tenth Champions League title, and in view of what he had achieved, they could have given him another year".
The 39-year-old ex-defender, who played under Ancelotti for eight seasons at AC Milan, revealed that in the early days of his own management career, he is seeking to model himself on his former boss: "We won a lot together. I think that he is an extremely capable coach, he doesn't get stressed out and is focused on his work. I think that this is the best combination".
We won a lot together. I think that he is an extremely capable coach"When asked about the most difficult player he faced in his playing days, the Lazio youth graduate was in no doubt: "It would be the Brazilian Ronaldo. He's the best of the best. I was fortunate, or unfortunate enough to play against all of the top players, against Messi, though I wasn't so young at that stage, against Cristiano Ronaldo... but he [the Brazilian Ronaldo] was the best of them all".
Nesta went on to share a lingering regret about never having graced La Liga: "I would have liked to have played for Barcelona or Real Madrid. I had the chance to have gone to Real Madrid, but I was at Lazio at the time, and I wanted to stay there for the rest of my career, so I said 'no'".
