UFC: Cheyanne Buys tells Montserrat Ruiz Ill follow you home in heated row after final bell

Cheyanne Buys and Montserrat Ruiz had to be separated by security after the final bell of their strawweight fight at UFC Vegas 22 on Saturday night.

The 28-year-old Mexican “Conejo” (10-1) took a unanimous decision at the UFC’s Apex facility, earning two scorecards of 29-28, and one 29-27, from the judges on her promotional debut against fellow newcomer Buys (5-2).

When the buzzer sounded at the end of the third and final round with Ruiz on top of Buys, she appeared to say something that enraged the 25-year-old American.

The pair got to their feet and had to be held apart by the referee before security entered the Octagon to break them up.

“I’ll follow you home, b****,” Buys was then heard shouting at Ruiz across the Octagon, while flashing her middle finger.

There had been some insinuations on social media that Ruiz had spit on Buys, sparking the flare-up, but she denied it during her post-fight media conference backstage.

“No, I didn’t spit on her at all,” Ruiz said. “It probably was the momentum. I’m not the type of person who likes to spit. That’s crossing the line. That wasn’t something I was thinking about doing in my debut.

“Everything got started when she insulted my wrestling and takedowns,” Ruiz added. “She said I had stupid headlocks and stupid takedowns. She said she used to know me, so I proved to her she didn’t know me.

“I gave her a little hell so she can taste it. I’m not the kind of person who likes to insult, I’m humble, but if you touch the wrong buttons you’re gonna have issues with me.”
