Los Angeles FC 1-3 Inter Miami CF, MLS regular season, BMO Stadium in LA
Update narrationMessi, 36, has had an incredible start to his MLS career. He led Inter Miami to the franchise's first piece of silverware, the 2023 Leagues Cup trophy, after defeating Nashville SC in a wild penalty shootout.
Vela, 34, and LAFC are the reigning league champions and currently third in the Western Conference while Inter sit at the bottom of the table in the East, making the Black & Gold squad favorites to win the match. The Mexican striker recently spoke to the press and downplayed the significance of facing Messi.
"No (it doesn't motivate me to face Messi)," Vela said. "The truth is that for me to be able to play, to be healthy, to be available for my team, is my motivation. And to be able to go every weekend, to every game, to show that I am a good player.
"We focus on our job, how to do things right to win and not who we are playing against or what I am going to do if he passes me. That matters to us. If we have to score a goal, it doesn't matter who is in front of us or if we have to kick a goal, it doesn't matter who it is."
Kickoff is scheduled for 07:00 p.m. PT from BMO Stadium. Watch the exciting clash on Apple TV with the MLS Season Pass.
