Shot in almost one take, the streamed video gave us a “backstage” atmosphere with Adonis-lookalike models wearing Nichanian’s new collection. The models walk across the set, socialise with each other, take phone calls, and … well, model, too. The format allowed audiences to see how the pieces worked in “real” contexts – something that perhaps traditional runways lacked. As a result, the collection gave us an intense hankering for an easy-breezy summer outdoors.
Sandals in black and brown featured predominantly in the show’s styling, perhaps because of their casual, versatile utility. The sandals paired well with one-pleat trousers with an elastic waist, as well as with slightly more dressed up suits in pale blue, striped cotton poplin. From an urban commute to a promenade by the seashore, the footwear makes sense and, above all, keeps the wearer comfortable.
The spring collection also boasts loafers in linen canvas with the Clou Medor detail, a house code that features across menswear and womenswear. There are also loafers featuring a lightweight rope sole and others in goatskin with a tone-on-tone Kelly buckle.
Although the Hermès trainer collection didn’t feature in the live-streamed show, a good pair of statement runners isn’t hard to find in the Hermès catalogue.
The Hermès Chris trainer, for instance, offers a dynamic urban look to any ensemble. The sneaker is made in technical canvas, Epsom calfskin, suede goatskin and a honey rubber sole with charming “H” moulds. (It’s also available in an all-white colourway, to finish a look with something a little fresher.)
From all-white trainers with a perforated slanted H motif, to a high-top in cotton canvas featuring a Robert Dallet print, the operative phrase here for the Hermès sneakerhead game is “subtle masculine elegance”.Want more stories like this?
