LONDON: An accountant in charge of the Metropolitan Police Fraud Squad cash has been arrested over the disappearance of more than GBP4 million (HK$47.68 million) of police funds.
Anthony Williams is being questioned by his own Fraud Squad detectives at Scotland Yard after it was found he owned a string of properties in the Scottish Highlands - even calling himself Lord Williams of Tomintoul, the small pretty village in the mountains where they are situated.
Williams, the assistant director of finance at Scotland Yard is believed to have paid more than GBP1 million for the title where people knew him as the local laird. His salary amounts to GBP30,000 a year.
