With the official announcement of 'Yellowstone''s end last year, Paramount Network wasted no time expanding its universe with new spinoffs. Among these are a prequel set in 1944 and a sequel series originally titled '2024', which would continue the story beyond the events of Yellowstone. Now, that sequel series is taking shape under a new name: 'The Madison'.
'The Madison' will star the acclaimed Michelle Pfeiffer, who will also serve as an executive producer alongside franchise creator Taylor Sheridan. This new addition to the Yellowstone universe is described as a "heartfelt study of grief and human connection," focusing on a New York City family navigating life in the Madison River valley of central Montana.
"Michelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who imbues every role with emotional depth, authenticity, and grace," said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "She is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the Yellowstone universe, The Madison, from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan."
Pfeiffer's casting follows in the footsteps of other A-list stars like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, who headlined the Yellowstone prequel series '1923'. While Matthew McConaughey was initially rumored to star in 'The Madison', no deal was ever finalized. This has led to speculation about which familiar faces from the Yellowstone universe might make appearances in the new series, as it continues to explore the Dutton family legacy with new characters and locations.
Taylor Sheridan expands Yellowstone with Pfeiffer
Meanwhile, another spinoff set in 1944 was also announced, continuing the prequel tradition established by '1883' and '1923'.
As for Yellowstone itself, the final episodes of the flagship series are set to begin airing on November 10. The show, which has become a cultural phenomenon and a ratings juggernaut, experienced a prolonged hiatus during the filming of its fifth season due to scheduling conflicts between Sheridan and star Kevin Costner.
After much speculation, Costner confirmed his exit from the series, stating, "It was a necessary decision to say, 'Hey, OK, I don't want to really talk about this anymore. It's time to move on.'" Fans are now eagerly awaiting how Sheridan will wrap up the story, especially regarding Costner's iconic character, John Dutton.
Pfeiffer, known for her breakout role in 'Scarface' and recent performance as Betty Ford in Showtime's 'The First Lady', will soon be seen in 'Oh. What. Fun!' for Amazon, adding another notable project to her storied career.
